One of the most popular suites for honeymoons and romantic getaways at Sandals are the overwater bungalows. These are at just a few resorts, one of which is Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay, Jamaica. This is actually the first place that Sandals built overwater bungalows, and they are the most luxurious suites on resort.
Sandals Royal Caribbean overwater bungalows reviews say that the suites are beautiful with lovely views and attentive service from the butlers.
We’ve seen these stunning bungalows in person on our visits to Sandals Royal Caribbean and are here to tell you all about them so you can decide if they’re right for you.
Depending on when you read this, the bungalows will either be closed for renovation or newly renovated. Work started in spring 2025 and is expected to be done by December 2025. We expect the renovations to be similar to the ones recently done at Sandals South Coast in Whitehouse, Jamaica, refreshing the look but not substantially changing the design.
Sandals Royal Caribbean Overwater Bungalows Location
What’s unique about the overwater bungalows here as opposed to other Sandals resorts is that they’re located on a private island. It sits just offshore from the main resort, and is reachable by a short boat ride. Guests staying in the overwater bungalows get private water taxi service back and forth.
There are two types of overwater bungalows here—with and without a private pool—and both are set along walkways, perched over the clear turquoise Caribbean.
The peaceful island also features a pool with swim-up bar, two restaurants, and beautiful beaches—one of which is clothing optional.
Sandals Royal Caribbean Overwater Bungalows Design & Amenities
As we mentioned before, there are two types of overwater bungalows at Sandals Royal Caribbean. One has a private pool and one does not.
The Sandals Royal Caribbean overwater bungalows with private pool are called the Overwater Private Island Butler Villa with Infinity Pool. These are a bit larger than the other suites and have expanded sundecks with:
- private infinity pool
- outdoor shower
- comfy seating
- overwater hammocks
- gorgeous water views
The villa interior is spacious, with:
- king bed
- separate sitting area
- full bar stocked with water, juice, soda, local beer, Robert Mondavi wine, sparkling wine, and premium spirits
- hardwood floors with a glass panel insert so you can see into the water below, which is also lit at night
- bathroom with two vanities, a walk-in rain shower, and oversized soaking tub with a view
The other type, the Overwater Private Island Butler Honeymoon Bungalow, has a sun deck with:
- outdoor soaking tub
- overwater hammocks
- loungers
- bistro set
- outdoor shower
- gorgeous water views
Inside, you’ll find:
- king bed
- bathroom with his-and-hers sinks and a walk-in rain shower
- full bar stocked with water, juice, soda, local beer, Robert Mondavi wine, sparkling wine, and premium spirits
- hardwood floor with glass insert so you can see into the water below, which is also lit at night
The suites with the best views are those with a pool or the bungalows numbered 6-12.
Regardless of which one you choose, the amenities are the same. Each overwater bungalow is a butler level suite, so it comes with 24-hour inroom dining and personal butler service.
This can really elevate your experience, as your butlers will take care of your every need. They will greet you with a cocktail when you arrive (in a complimentary private airport transfer via BMW instead of the shared shuttle), escort you to your overwater bungalow, and handle check-in there.
They can also unpack for you, share insider tips about the resort, make your dinner and spa reservations, book excursions, bring you whatever you want in terms of food and drink in your suite or wherever you are on the resort, and arrange romantic extras like bubble baths and candlelight dinners on the beach.
Note that butlers are the only Sandals staff that can accept tips, and they should be tipped for their service. We recommend $20-$25 per butler per day, or more if they go above and beyond or you have a lot of special requests.
Another great amenity you’ll appreciate is a personal greeting at the airport and expedited immigration.
Sandals Royal Caribbean Overwater Bungalows Price
The overwater bungalows are not a budget accommodation, but many people think they’re worth the splurge. Rates here vary throughout the year, but the Sandals Royal Caribbean overwater bungalows with private pool currently start at $2415 per person per night, while those without a pool start at $1750 per person per night.
Sandals Royal Caribbean Overview
Sandals Royal Caribbean is conveniently located just about 10 minutes from the airport in Montego Bay and has a lot to offer, including the private island and exchange privileges with nearby Sandals Montego Bay (which allows you to enjoy that resort’s facilities, restaurants, and bars at any time via a free shuttle).
Onsite you’ll find 9 restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, including excellent Thai and Indian. There are 5 bars including swim-up bars, and of course all food and drink are included, even premium liquor and Robert Mondavi wines.
Guests enjoy 8 pools, 6 whirlpools, complimentary watersports including snorkeling and scuba diving, unlimited land activities including tennis and croquet, a fitness center, and daily and nightly entertainment. There’s a full spa as well, plus offsite excursions (these options cost extra). Roundtrip airport transfers and all taxes and tips are included in the rate (except for butlers, spa staff, transfer drivers, and excursion staff).
While the overwater bungalows are the most iconic accommodations, the resort features a wide variety including beachfront Skypool suites with elevated infinity pools and rooftop terraces, swim-up suites, beachfront walkout suites, and more. All of the rooms here have furnished outdoor spaces, and most have outdoor Tranquility Soaking Tubs for two.
